Child Therapy to explore, develop and strengthen social emotional wellness
Your child has been creating chaos at home, child care or school. It is exhausting for the entire family to walk on eggshells because of a child’s volatile emotions and behaviors. You have tried every trick you have read about or been told to try to help your child calm down, tell you how they are feeling, or stop behaviors that are less than desirable. You spend a lot of time wondering how much of these challenges are developmentally appropriate (which doesn’t make them any less frustrating, annoying, or embarrassing). You have tried to work on expanding your child’s emotional awareness, self regulation, communication, social skills, and problem solving……. but it feels like nothing is working! Play Therapy is an excellent intervention to assess challenges and support the development of social emotional skills (the foundation of mental health and wellness).
Hi I am Anna, a Mental Health Counseling Graduate Student specializing in Child Therapy
As a graduate student studying counseling and specifically play therapy, I am immersed in learning about human development, foundational counseling skills, and counseling interventions through my course work at Adams State University. I am excited to have an opportunity to bring the classroom and book learning alive working with clients during my internship placement with Erin Bennetts, LCSW RPTS. I am grateful for the level of support and supervision I am receiving as begin my work with children and families.
Outside of school and practicum I am the busy Mom of 3 school aged children, so I get how challenging it is to be raising kids. I know what it feels like to worry when your children are struggling and you are not sure how to support them.
I am making a transition out of my 20 year long career as a pastry chef into counseling. At my heart I am a nurturer, and I look forward to transitioning the way I provide nurturance from baked goods to presence in the counseling relationship. I have had a lifelong interest in people. I am fascinated by the strength and grit it takes to be fully human. I look forward to providing safety, regulation and connection to the children and families I have the opportunity to work with.
A great opportunity for you, your child, and for me
I completed my practicum placement with Erin Bennetts January 2024-May of 2024. I am thrilled to continue my learning experience supporting clients from the first inquiry to their last session. I am expanding my foundational counseling skills as I provide a complementary 20 minute video consultation to potential clients, meet with parents/care givers for an initial intake/assessment/goal setting session, provide ongoing individual play therapy to children, engage parents in parent feedback/consultation, and finally meeting with parents/caregivers for a summary session at the completion of services.
As a graduate student intern I have the support of my on-site supervisor, mentor as well as my professors and classmates. This support network is in place for my learning and with your child/families desired outcomes in mind. Lets start your families journey today!
